  1. Brad Gurwin - Noah Nathan Hour 6 Individual Choice

Your individual choice has the biggest role in preventing the use of illegal substances in your life. The four main aspects of this choice relies on your friends, priorities, family, and the ability to seek proper help when necessary. Your friends often have the power to influence you positively or negatively. If your friends make the right choices, your individual choice is likely to be correct as well. Your family can also influence you. If your family teaches you and supports you properly, you wont need to rely on substances to achieve happiness. If you have your priorities straight, you probably won't turn to illegal substances. Your ability to seek help is also an important factor. If you're feeling down, which pain reliever do you use, motrin or heroin? With the right friends, family, and intelligence level, your individual choice is most likely going to be the right one.

Family is the biggest part in substance use prevention. Family will allways be there for you and wanting to help no matter what. they can prevent substance abuse and even get them away from it. family should be the first there to help those who really need it. overall family should be the first there to help during sdubstance abuse

    State Government
The State Government has a department that reviews substance use. Its called the Controlled Substance Advisory Commission, established in 1988. They monitor indicators of controlled substance. They recommend actions for identified problems of abuse. In the commission there are 13 voting members and 7 ex officio members. (Ex officio means appointed by ones position or status) There are also regulatory laws. Such as laws against illegal drugs. Marijuana, for example, is illegal for recreation but the CSAC recommended that it be legalized for medical use. Which is now legal in Michigan.

How does school help us with substance use and drug prevention? Well they provide us with a mandatory health class that we learn about all sorts of drugs and how to detect and help abuse. We believe that this is very effective and we are well aware of what would happen to us if we decided to use drugs. School also provides us with counselors who help make good decisions. If we are in an issue, they help us do the right thing.

    Topic: Siblings
Being a sibling of a recovering drug addict can be a very stressful, but rewarding position. As a sibling, you feel very concerned for your loved ones, and knowing how to help them through a recovery process can save a loved one’s life. The process to recovery involves multiple topics. The first act that a sibling can contribute is acting as a trustworthy friend, as well as being a person whom they can open up to. While in recovery, the addict is susceptible to falling back into their previous deteriorating habits. By being an active listener and communicator towards your sibling, the addict can maintain a state of stability and overall well-being. In addition, the sibling must communicate with others that can assist the former addict in the recovery process. The addict tends to struggle expressing emotions towards educated role models who are willing to help. A responsibility that goes along with being a sibling of an addict is to be a mediator between the addict and the outside world. This includes parents, family, friends, role models, teachers, and many others. In conclusion, the sibling must be informed on the specifics of that particular addiction. By being aware of the difficulties of recovering from an addiction, as well as having the prior knowledge to help a sibling, a full recovery can become plausible. A sibling plays a tremendous role in the recovery process of a former addict. By fully committing to these guidelines, they can make a difference.

Faith based organizations help prevent drugs in many ways. First of all, religions look down on drug use rather than viewing it as okay. A huge thing that builds up to why people use drugs is pain that they can't find a way to release. Furthermore, these organizations offer a place to relieve pain that is better than using drugs. With a place of worship, people can spemd more time worshipping than doing drugs or trying to get ahold of them. Additionaly, faith based organizations pffer services to help people stop using and drinking drugs, such as alcohol anonymous meetings. Given all these helpful ways, you cam see thay faith based organizations are a great way to prevent substance abise.

    mental health systems

Mental health systems such as rehab facilities, hospitals, and psychiatrists are all ways to identify a drug related problem and prevent it. All of these systems are scattered across our communities and are easily available. Since most drug problems have to do with a mental health problem, hospitals are a good source of assurance. These systems help prevent many deaths due to the fact that they help people heal their mental problems and avoid drug abuse. They provide a safe way to make sure that people don't make their problems worse than they already are and help them resolve their problems. The rehab facilities help to support them so that they stop using, the hospitals are used to treat immediate emergency's, and the psychiatrists help them deal with their problems after they've stopped using to make sure that they don't use again and they also check up on how they're doing mentally and emotionally.

The federal government has started sponsoring the Red Ribbon foundation the help people have more knowledge about drugs and the harmful affects of drug abuse. The federal government is helping the Red Ribbon campaign in creating a substance free environment for all. This campaign's mission is to lead and support our nations families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy drug free growth. They have local groups and parent communities to inform the people about the big issue of drugs. Parents and youth of communities across the country began to wear red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment and raise awareness of death and destruction caused by drugs in America. Also parents and citizens take "The Pledge" that states to have annual talks with children/teens about drugs and will set good examples for the youth of America.

    Legal and Judicial systems

The legal and judicial systems play a major role in the prevention of drug use and abuse. First off, they have laws against drunk driving in place. Anyone caught driving while under the influence can expect a hefty fine. Also, if anything goes wrong (i.e. accidentally killing someone) then theses drunk drivers can expect to end up in jail. Of course there are a select few teenagers who choose to drink and drive, and there are punishments for them too. Any teenager under the age who's caught with alcohol can be assigned an m.i.p., or minor in possession. These m.i.p.'s include a fine and the misdemeanor will be on the offenders record for life. There is another great way the legal and judicial systems help in the prevention of drug use and abuse, and thats by bringing court to schools for a day. This gives kids the opportunity to see firsthand the punishments for drug abuse. They watch offenders, such as drunk drivers, go up to court and stand trial for their actions. By showing kids what the punishments for these crimes are, it makes them a lot less motivated to commit the punishable actions. Overall the legal and judicial systems are doing a lot to proven drug use and abuse. Thanks to these systems people are starting to see that while drug abuse and drunk driving may not seem like that big of a deal, the repercussions may follow them forever. Hopefully these systems will help people to choose the smart choice and not have to worry about fines or even jail time for their actions.

    The World Health Organization

The World Health Organization website is abundant with information, helpful for spreading global awareness on substance use prevention. For instance, the organization discourages the engagement in alcohol through a book titled, "Global Strategy to Reduce the Harmful Use of Alcohol." Outlining strategies to help and/or recover alcohol users, the book emphasizes potential challenges faced after regular intake of the drug, steps towards overcoming addiction, and policies relating to the drug. Another way the organization helps in hindering the inappropriate use of drugs among people, is through a series of issues and volumes from "WHO Drug Information." Specifically, the book describes certain drugs. To conclude, the World Health Organization goes above and beyond, presenting vital information about substance use prevention to everyone in the world.

    Community Organizations

Community Organizations have a large impact upon the lives of people living in those communities. Your surroundings in a community have a major influence on your viewpoint about certain things and making decisions about those things. For example: The Boy Scouts is a community organization. I say “Boy Scouts” and the first thing that pops into your head is just building fires and going out on camp outs; nothing more. However, you must think about the interpersonal relationships that are formed as a result of belonging to that organization, (in this case, the Boy Scouts). In addition, the acts of service they do give them self-worth and pride and if you are proud and fulfilled in life, you are more likely to be above the influence. You must take into consideration the fact that these friends you’ve met through Boy Scouts play a tremendous part on your morals and the decisions you make in life. If your fellow Boy Scouts are drug-free and you have common sense, there’s a very good chance that you will also steer clear of drugs. The things these boys learn in Boy Scouts can influence them to make good decisions and they have those friends to enforce and support those morals. Most kids follow what their friends do (at least to a certain extent), so if everyone makes good choices, others are influenced to do the same and as a community we can avoid substance abuse. This goes for any community organization because when people make good choices together, they feel safe and confident in making them because they have a core group behind them, rooting for them. And in the end, all we need is a little team spirit.

Faith based programs are great support systems for those that are trying to and wish to be free from drugs/alcohol. With the help of Faith Based Programs, and their continued support, hundreds of thousands of people are now free of drugs. The Faith based programs do not detox someone, however they do offer a drug free environment where people are encouraged not only to do drugs, but to live a full, healthy, and long life. What a lot of the programs do is pair their members together so that they each have someone that can support them when they feel the urge to do drugs.

    Mental Health Systems

Mental health systems play a crucial role in substance use prevention through their work assisting individuals with mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia. People with mental illnesses are often more likely to use chemical substances, and these substances can also have the ability to bring out these illnesses in people. To help with the correlation between substances and mental well-being, mental health systems provide helpful counseling, advice, and rehabilitation to these individuals. People in mental health systems have access to psychologists, doctors, and others with similar problems that they can relate to. Doctors can provide them with medications, if necessary, to help them become independent of their addiction.

    Siblings

Siblings play an important role in helping an individual stay clear of drugs. First, older siblings set examples for their younger ones. When a kid looks up to someone who is setting a good example, they are more likely to make the right decisions. Second, siblings provide a safe and easily accessible outlet. They are almost always available and easy to talk to. Kids tend to feel more comfortable talking to their siblings as apposed to someone they don't know as well. Also, siblings are generally close in age and they can help each other stay away from groups of people that are involved in dangerous things. Lastly, if someone thinks that their sibling might need more help than they can give them, they can alert their parents or other adults. For these reasons and more, siblings provide excellent help in substance use prevention.

    Faith
Faith and religions are ways to prevent drug abuse rather efficiently. Practicing religions take up time and since doing nothing can lead to depression witch then in turn leads to abuse of drugs or other things, it prevents drug abuse in this way. Another concept is that religions will steer clear of drugs and that abusing substances is wrong doing. Religion and faith also give people hope and confidence to quit drugs and/or stay away from drug abuse. Some places of worship offer programs to help those who wish to become 'un-addicted'. such programs include AA meetings, al anon meetings, and al ateen meetings. So overall it is evident that faith and religion helps with drug prevention and also helps kick the nasty habit of drug abuse.

Our school has multiple prevention and programs to assist in substance use prevention. One program is health class. Our health class has a substance abuse unit where the students learn about many different drugs and the effects they have on your life. During our classes the teacher informs us on how the use of drugs can affect people over the span of their whole life. Another way our school promotes drug prevention is by providing us with counselors. Students are allowed to set up a meeting with them whenever they need to talk, about anything. Finally, every so often, the police come to our school and talk about how you life could turn out if you choose a lifestyle full of drugs ad alcohol.

Our families help prevent substance use and abuse by early on setting the ground rules. Before we knew much about substances, they sat us down and talked to us about the danger, causing us to already have a negative view on drugs. Both of of our families don't drink very often, so we don't feel influenced or peer pressured to drink as a casual think, or at all. Our families often talk about goals and our futures and substance use could ruin that, so we stay focused. They also make us aware of the consequences that could come from them, such as a M.I.P. As a family we are close-knit and do many activities as a family and keep us active so we see the importance of family and life drug free, and do not get off track

    Mental Health Institutions

Mental health institutions help prevent substance abuse in many ways. For a start, people with certain mental health issues are at a higher risk for substance abuse problems. Veterans who are suffering from PTSD, people with bipolar disorder and people with schizophrenia (among other mental health issues) are at higher risk. Drugs and alcohol are also used to self medicate people with depression and anxiety. Mental health institutions can treat these diseases by preventing an addiction or atleast help lower the chances of an addiction will forming. Mental health institutions also can help to rehabilitate addicts to prevent further substance abuse. By helping take care of those with an addiction, they can parent people around them from falling victim. Evidently, aiding the stop to drug addiction.

    School

The school should be partially responsible for educating students about drug abuse and preventing the use of drugs. It should provide a health class that teaches the students how to avoid drugs and drug addictions. The school should make sure that no drug exchanges are happening within the school and its facilities. the counselors at school are responsible for helping or finding help for students that come to them with substance abuse problems . At the bare minimum the school and the counselors should contact the parents of the child and in some instances, the authorities. Ideally the school would provide before and after school classes or clubs that help students recover if they are already suffering from addiction problems. the school is where students spend nearly one third of their time. It should be held at least partially accountable for preventing the abuse of substances and giving suffering students hope for a better life.

The Michigan state government assists in substance abuse prevention by providing lots of helpful information that clearly describes the effects of harmful substances. The website that contains most of this information, http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,4612,7-132-2941_4871_29888---,00.html, is clear and informative, and it helps people have a better understanding of the content. The state government uses their website to allow people considering the use of drugs to clearly see the effects of each one. The state government also has educational programs to educate students about the different kinds of drugs and their harmful effects. Substance Treatment center.
People who have a severe addiction problem should go to the Substance Treatment Centers. Many people who undergoing of their treatment recovery is more difficult it would take a long time to recover themselves. In treatment centers they discuss real issues and give advice in the topics of addiction for their treatment recovery. A recovered drug user will speak to others to help them to stay away from drugs and gain confidence and happiness in order to heal their depression . An Addiction Specialist will help them and will go to other communities to speak for those people who are drug addicts. There are many types of programs it could be one-on-one counseling, a group support or therapy session, a residential programs it will involve living in the treatment facility and attending groups but it is usually a 90 days treatment or a shorter program is like 28 or 30 days and an individual therapy. In this conclusion Substance Treatment Center is great start for those people it takes months or years for those people to recover but it is worth it for them because they wanted to continue their life with their family and friends.

Federal government involvement in drug/illegal substance use.

There are many direct and indirect ways that the federal government helps to prevent, regulate, research, and so forth the use of illegal substances. First of all, they create laws regarding the use of drugs; how much of a certain substance one may take, or have possession of, rules regarding and monitoring the use and distribution of prescription drugs, as well as agencies like border patrol, customs, and the police that proactively try to stop, or at least regulate and monitor the trafficking of illegal substances, as well as persecute individuals or groups distributing or found in illegal possession of drugs/alcohol/etc.. In addition, the government helps to fund education via drug awareness programs, and provide grants to universities, pharmaceutical/drug companies, and other medical institutions/foundations that research and help to provide assistance to people with drug/substance abuse. Certain government agencies in turn assist in the compiling and distribution of this research to the general public, via FDA, NIH, CDC, and so forth.

Family's Role in Substance Abuse Prevention
Family plays one of the most important roles in a teenager's life. It's crucial for teenagers to have a good relationship with their families, as well as with their friends. Parents informing kids about all forms of drug abuse is very important. If a kid doesn't know enough about substance abuse, they may be doing it without even knowing. Family bonding also helps prevent drug abuse, because if the child feels like they have support, they might not turn to substance abuse if they are going through a hard time. It is important for parents to take time to monitor what their kids are doing. When parents know their children's friends well, they can trust their kids to spend time with them without worries. Communicating with your child and sharing experiences with them will help to break any barriers down. Listening to each other and taking the time to converse with each other is an important part to good relationships. Helping your child or sibling make important decisions will help them feel like they have someone to identify with. Having strong family relationships is a necessity for children, especially those of who have temptations or pressure to abuse substances.

School's Role in Substance Abuse Prevention
School helps prevent substance use by having health classes, teachers, and counselors that inform you about drugs and their dangers. Another way that school prevents drug use is screening for sports. Doing this deters people from doing drugs if they want to join a team because they will get caught. Also, being around a good group of kids in school and having a concerned counselor that can help protect you and keep you away from drugs. Simply staying away from people known for doing drugs and hanging out with good people can be a great way to prevent the temptation of drug use. Clubs in school, like SADD, promote being substance free while driving and really, just being drug-free in general. These are just a few of the ways that school can prevent substance use.

Siblings aid in the prevention of drug abuse in many ways. Many siblings are close with one another and will notice a change in habits and health of the other. They also realize when you are hiding something, and will most likely tell an adult. If you have older siblings they have had more experience, are more mature and understand the harmful effects of drugs, so they can help any younger siblings. They’ve taken more classes at school that have taught them about certain drugs and they have personal experiences with friends and classmates. If you have younger siblings, you have to set a good example for them and feel a sense of responsibility.

    Legal and Judicial Systems
The legal system is a great assistant in stopping substance abuse. Being in legal trouble can help many drug abuses realize what they are doing to their lives and going to jail can open their eyes and understand the trouble they are facing and stop doing them to avoid going to jail. Also, drug abusers can be legally pressured to take action and participate in treatment programs if they want to avoid going to jail.
With the legal system forcing rehab and treatment, this can help because if the legal system wasn't forcing treatment, they wouldn't get the help they need, but with probation, jail time, and more facing them, they finally will get the help that is needed for them to stop doing drugs and save their lives

    Faith based Organizations

When people and families abuse drugs and substances, many faith based organizations open up to them so that they look to God for help. at the churches Kirk in the hills and Kensington, they are involved in a program called SOS. This is a program where people move from church to church and say there while they look for a new job or just get back on their feet. Many of the people who stay there are or were substance addicts or alcoholics or lost their job because of a substance related topic. They come to the church and try to wash away their "sins" by getting closer to God. This is very effective and helps almost all of the people there find a job or at least get an interview. And it also helps them that they never should use drugs again through God.

It is surprising that upon typing in the words “substance prevention”, I expected a ton of blogs, chats and groups to pop up and be easy access. However, this was not the case. I found a bunch of informational website that guided me to actual locations all over the country. I also found a bunch of documents that I could purchase that could give me stats and information on the topic, but not a lot of Internet based organizations. Most of them were community organizations that had information on their website or they were connected to colleges. The Hazenlden website was one of the few websites that I did find. It website is a great website to use as a reference or a starting point. Although, it does have locations you can go to, they also had a contact number and they prove a big list of risk factors and things people can do to help prevent the use of drugs. The problem with this was that there were a ton of different preventions one could look into, bullying (etc). Another website I found was “The drug abuse” website. It is also good. They provide a list of possible drugs that one might us, information about those drugs and then some ideas on how to avoid the use of drugs. But it wasn’t a great user friendly website. The BEST two websites were actually found by going on the DEA website. They were: http://www.justthinktwice.com/ and http://www.getsmartaboutdrugs.com/. They both were great! A ton of information, facts about drugs, what can happen both physically and with the law. They both had a ton of information on them. It was just very hard to find these websites.

Siblings influence their younger siblings by telling then scary things about drugs, warning them about the consequences of using, also by telling them personal experiences so they don’t commit the same mistakes as they did. For example, if your older sibling got caught experimenting or holding drugs, he or she could have gotten in legal trouble and in trouble at home, therefore they would want to share that story to scare their younger sibling so they learn not to get in a big mess. Older siblings also try to put you in the right direction which doesn’t include using drugs. They might do this by telling you a scary story about how one of their friends used the drug and died from an overdose. You and your other sibling might get into fight sometimes but they would never purposely do something to hurt you in any way and drugs hurt you in many ways that are not easy to handle.

    World Health Organization -

Substance abuse refers to the harmful or use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol and illicit drugs. Psychoactive substance use can lead to dependence syndrome - a group of behavioral, mental, and physiological occurrences that develop after repeated substance use and, that typically include a strong desire to take the drug, persisting in its use despite harmful consequences, a higher priority given to drug use than to other activities and obligations, increased tolerance, and sometimes a physical withdrawal state. Policies which influence the levels and patterns of substance use and related harm can significantly reduce the public health problems attributable to substance use, and interventions at the health care system level can work towards the restoration of health in affected individuals. There are many direct and indirect ways that the world health organization helps to prevent, regulate, research, and so forth the use of illegal substances. The World Health Assembly is currently discussing several issues of importance to the implementation of the global strategy to reduce the harmful use of drugs, a draft comprehensive global monitoring framework and targets for the prevention and control of NCDs; a draft action plan for the prevention and control of NCDs 2013–2020; a draft comprehensive mental health action plan 2013–2020 and finally the progress report of the implementation of the global strategy on Drugs.

    - Organize programs for fighting addiction (Ex. AA)
    - Provide guidance and teachings on the topic
    - Spread awareness of the conflict and possible consequences/solutions
    - Give general information on the topic
    - Can direct a drug abuser to a rehabilitation center
    - Give moral guidance
    - Offer support and encouragement in any situation

Communities can hold events that promote stopping substance abuse like fundraiser or holding activities for the kids such as competitions, games, roller coasters, etc. In our community the BBCC or the birmingham-bloomfield community coalition, have a youth action board that hold events like showing movies or battle of the bands for kids so they can raise awareness of drug abuse. Communities can be like schools, they can inform the people living in the community about drug abuse and its effects on teens, even on adults. Finally communities can have community center, so kids, teens, and adults come and do their favorite activity in a healthy environment.

    Community Organizations:
Community organizations are tools which give people a place to get help with their addiction or drug problem. These placed give addicts an environment in which they feel that they will be accepted and receive help. Often times, addicts will go through a rehab program via the organization. They are told about the harmful effects of drugs and given suggestions on what they can do to stop doing the drugs. In these programs, addicts go multiple times until they get over their addiction. The organizations have objectives which generally involve educating the youth and helping the recovering. One such place is the Partnership For A Drug Free Detroit. Their goals, summarized, are to coordinate with the state/federal government, to significantly involve the recovering community, to educate high schoolers, establish community norms and limitations on substance abuse, and to reduce alcohol consumption by 50%. The Partnership For A Drug Free Detroit is only one of many organizations with similar goals. To conclude, community organizations are valuable resources for those in need of help.

The first place where the drugs go,is your mouth, then your stomach and the stomach sends a signal to the brain. When the drugs reach your brain, the more intense the effects get. Also some drugs effect your heart and other parts of your body ( liver, lungs...ect). An individual should make the choice to not do drugs, because of all the dangerous health effects.

Using social media websites like facebook or twitter can prevent people from using drugs. Liking a page on facebook or following a drug prevent page on twiiter can educate teens about how bad drugs are in your body. Social media can prevent teens and even adults from using drugs or being peer presure to use drugs. Teens can meet people through social media who have had a drug problem and that person can explain how using drugs can affect your family, friends, grades, and ofcoarse yourself.

Work assistance programs help keep addicts from re abusing substances and keep them from abusing them in the first place. They give them jobs to keep them away from the negative impacts of substance abuse. Usually people who have jobs that keep them occupied for longer periods of time keeps them away from drugs.

The state of Michigan allows the consumption of prescribed drugs and alcohol with regulations. Some jobs will not allow you to take any medication (oxeycotton, vicodin, etc) while operating heavy machinery or around heavy/dangerous work zones. Also, ensure workers to follow these rules, there are random drug tests given to workers. Any worker who is consuming more than 2 alcoholic drinks is defined as heavy drinkers.

The Federal Government creates drug programs for addicts and programs to stop relapses. They could do more parades and fun things to encourage struggling addicts. The Federal Government could fund more outreach programs and advertising that drugs aren't the answer. They could do mentor programs to help youth talk to someone who has already been through what the youth is going through. Lastly, the Federal Government could use more funds to stop drugs from entering our country and being sold.

  43. Everybody has options in life. There is always more than one choice. As an individual, you have the choice whether or not to do drugs. IF you choose to do drugs, you're responsible for knowing the consequences. You are responsible for accepting the fact that your goals for the future could be ruined. Once you've done it you cant take it back. Ask yourself, "Am I willing to take the chance of giving up my future and present goals and relationships for drugs?" Know the side effects. What will this drug do to your health and more specifically your brain? Educate yourself about the consequences and side effects before you put yourself through the tragic responsibilities you will have to endure. So, take and extra second to think before you act. Save yourself.

    Community Organizations:

Community organizations help prevent drug/substance use in many ways. Firstly, community organizations like Partnership for a Drug Free Detroit (PDFD) help prevent drug use by educating youth in Detroit, while also offeringa substance abuse treatment programs or providers in certain areas. Another community organization who prevents substance use is Mothers Against Destructive Decisions (MADD). They help prevent a different type of drug misuse. Generally, community organizations can help by educating people about the consequences of substance use, while also offering emotional support. Alcohol Anonymous (AA) have assemblies to help offer emotional support because of drug use. Throughout America, there are hundreds of rehabilitation centers for drug users. Also, private organizations will hold fundraisers to educate and promote awareness, and raise money for public rehabilitation centers.

  45. The Federal government has one of the biggest parts in substance control. The Federal Government is able to take action against any drug that is to damaging. One Example is the FDA's combat of energy drinks due to the fact that many people have died using them. It is unknown what the FDA will do at this point to limit substance use. The Federal Government has the power to also make a drug illegal for use, as seen in the case of many drugs like heroin or like alcohol in the 1920's. This made it illegal for possession of it at any time, with a fine and jail time for getting caught with it. While this did somewhat crackdown on certain drug it is manly impossible to fully destroy it, unless you go and manually destroy all plants, seeds, and the refined form of the drug, which will never happen. Overall, the Federal government has one of the biggest hands in substance use prevention.

    Mental Health Institutions

Mental health institutions are places where psychologists or psychiatrists can be found to help people with mental problems or drug addictions. These institutions can recommend medicine or can just help people overcome their addiction to a drug. Physical addiction is only one part of the addiction. Mental addiction is another factor in addiction. For the mental addiction to be cured, people, places and things that are associated with the person’s use of that drug must be avoided. These things must be avoided to prevent urges to use the drug again. If people, places and things are not avoided, a relapse is vey likely to occur.

When it comes to substance use and prevention Judicial systems play a big part in preventing and punishing those who don not follow the laws that are already in place regarding substance use. Punishments ranging from fines to life in prison can all be linked back to substance use. The Judicial system plays also plays a big part in influencing on how people act. If someone were to get into trouble with the Law over substance use it can bring a moment of clarity to them and push them to change their lives. Besides giving you punishment Legal and Judicial systems can also provide a relief for those that have been afflicted by substance use. A common form of this is rehabilitation which is offered for patients dealing with recovery off of a number of substances.

You have the choice to choose who your friends are. This is an important decision to have because certain people can influence your choices and lead you down the wrong path. It's important to be independent when deciding about substances. You can still be friends with whoever you want but in the end it is ultimately your decision. Don't give into peer pressure because it can cause you to do things that you might regret including using drugs.

We think that the legal system is a good thing to our society and deteriant . If you get a felony on any charge as of possession of marijuana, possession of a narcotic and etc, it could effect your whole life up from one thing. An example would be trying getting into a college or an interview for a job. Also, The Judicial is a good thing as well including officers. They come to our school events such as our basketball and football games to keep our environment safe from any harm. Lastly, sometimes they take courts to schools so the kids can learn what can they do and not to do.

At the work place, most often, facilities will be drug free. Also, an EAP or empolyee assistance program is installed. An EAP may offer counseling, referals, and resources for both the buisness managers and workers in areas such as behavioral, and substance abuse issues. The program is offered to all employees regardless of if they have elected health coverage. The EAP helps managers confront their employees with substance abuse problems and ecourages them to seek help. It provides referals to substance abuse counselors, and rehab facilities, and helps prepare employees for a transition back into work if their recovery causes them to miss work time.

Also, if any of our older siblings found out that we took drugs, our physical well-being would be at stake. I also want to lead my younger siblings into better choices for their future. Competition for the best kid helps because I always want to prove to my parents that I'm the best kid, but if I took drugs I wouldn't be. Many schools promote positive lifestyles for teens by informing them about negative decisions like substance use. Schools express this through rules, punishments, and a health class unit that teaches students the consequences and harmful effects of substance use. Also school promote positive lifestyles by allowing clubs and organizations to take place. For example, Bloomfield Hills High School is currently holding a club called SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions.) SADD helps prevent kids from making decisions that will negatively affect their life forever. SADD spreads information around the school comprehensively through posters, announcements, and social media. Teens will not come to school on drugs because they have been informed about the punishments because it is against school rules. The Code of Conduct states the consequences so the students are aware of the outcome of their actions. The health class teaches students of the mental, physical, and emotional health effects of substance use. Overall, schools positively influence the abstinence of drugs.

There are many direct and indirect ways that the federal government helps to prevent, regulate, research, and so forth the use of illegal substances. They make us take a health class in which we learn about all sorts of drugs and how to detect and help abuse. They also create Mental health institutions to help prevent substance abuse in many ways. One way is people with certain mental health issues are at a higher risk for substance abuse problems so they admit them. On another note, they create laws regarding the use of drugs; how much of a certain substance one may take, or have possession of, rules regarding and monitoring the use and distribution of prescription drugs. And finally Facebook or twitter can prevent people from using drugs. Liking a page on facebook or following a drug prevent page on Twitter can educate people on how bad drugs are and what they can do to your body.
